Juneteenth: Works from the Bernard A. Zuckerman Museum of Art Permanent Collection
The Zuckerman Museum of Art presents a Juneteenth exhibition drawn from its permanent collection, highlighting African American artists through themes of spirituality, materiality, and resilience.
The Zuckerman Museum of Art presents Juneteenth: Works from the Bernard A. Zuckerman Museum of Art Permanent Collection, an exhibition organized in conjunction with the 2026 Juneteenth observance.
Curated by Cynthia Nourse Thompson in collaboration with Kennesaw State University's Division of Student Affairs, Student Engagement & Support, the exhibition features artwork by African American artists represented in the museum's permanent collection, including Mildred Beltre, Paul Stephen Benjamin, Willie Birch, Aaron Coleman, Donté Hayes, Yashua Klos, Delita Martin, Ayanah Moor, Althea Murphy-Price, Bernice Sims, Renée Stout, Mickalene Thomas, William Villalongo, and Carrie Mae Weems.
The exhibition is organized around three central themes: Spirituality, Materiality, and Resilience. Through diverse media and artistic approaches, the selected works examine faith, labor, cultural memory, identity, perseverance, and the enduring strength of African American communities.
Together, these works invite visitors to consider how these interconnected themes shape both individual experiences and broader African American cultural narratives.
